Rep. Benson joins NCMDC to celebrate Lunenburg solar-array interconnection

NCMDC solar array interconnect

LUNENBURG – Representative Jennifer Benson (D-Lunenburg), Representative Stephen DiNatale (D-Fitchburg), and Senator Jennifer Flanagan (D-Leominster) joined the North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation (NCMDC), local manufactures and officials last Wednesday to celebrate the final connection of the solar array on Pleasant Street in Lunenburg.

After setting a goal earlier in the year to support local manufacturers by providing the opportunity to utilize Green Power, NCMDC signed a contract with a New York-based company, Nugen Capital Management LLC, to purchase all of the net-metering credits being produced by the solar facility located at 265 Pleasant Street in Lunenburg. The solar facility’s output of energy is expected to be 1.2 million kilowatt hours annually.

“I was honored to join my colleagues and the North Central MA Development Corporation in celebrating the interconnection of the solar field in Lunenburg. It is excellent to see the NCMDC committed to providing local manufacturers with the opportunity to go solar and save money on electric bills, which will allow them to remain competitive in the industry,” said Representative Benson (D-Lunenburg). “This new solar project creates a unique partnership between NCMDC and local manufacturers. It is excellent for our region, and will certainly serve as a model for other businesses across the Commonwealth.”

All of the net-metering credits produced by the solar-array were made available to manufactures in the Unitil Service area. The net-metering credits will be sold to six manufacturing companies in Fitchburg. The six businesses will purchase credits at fifteen percent below face value, which will give them the opportunity to see significant savings on their electric bills.
